Design Engineering Manager

Design Engineering Manager

 

 Company:

The organisation was founded as a joint venture between 2 multinational telecommunications companies in order to manage their network sites. This includes the consolidation of sites to create a single grid.

 

Responsibilities for this role:

 

  • To act as a technical lead for all incoming BAU design queries, resolve with appropriate design guidance or to delegate to a specialist within the design team. This includes queries in relation to sites out of service and maintenance issues.
  • Ensures design standards and solutions are in accordance with the appropriate BS EN standard or legislation.
  • To manage general design queries, generating design standards and supplier auditing
  • To be lead design authority for engineering specialism. Managing and maintaining current suppliers, documentation and guidelines associated with environmental systems.
  • To analyse current solutions and develop new products accordingly. Ensures compliance in installation quality and ensure acceptable performance of network sites. This is to ensure that all solutions deployed into the network are fit for purpose and requirements for the installation and maintenance area clearly defined and accepted by the business. Ensures CTIL maintains control of the infrastructure deployed on site
  • To review incoming Active design changes and assess the impact on passive design guidelines.
  • To lead and contribute actively to health and safety, environmental, business continuity and information security arrangements that meet our obligations to our customers.
  • To plan, scope, cost and define objectives with stakeholders for design related projects.
  • To engage with and assist all key stakeholders and stakeholder groups who are connected to the design function.
  • To proactively identify and record all design and H&S risks, issues and dependencies and subsequently managing their mitigation of resolutions escalating to those that require senior escalation to ensure issues are resolved in a timely fashion and risk are highlighted appropriately.
  • To manage change to requirements of design within the role’s particular field brought about by customer demand.
  • Act as an expert reference point for all site design queries related to the roles particular field and ensure the clear communication of design & standards information is issued to all relevant parties.

Requirements:

  • Broad experience (technical, managerial, industry) working in site design environment, working with suppliers and shareholder management.
  • Broad knowledge of Telecoms infrastructure and suppliers
  • A Level English, Math, Science, Bachelor (Honours) Degree in Engineering and related qualification to the specific role

Instructions issued to senior designers, information issued to all levels.

DevOps Engineer

I’m currently recruiting for a DevOps Engineer for a growing company based in Reading.

You will be working to operate, administer, configure and maintain a suite of solutions.

Key skills: –

Experience in some of the following areas are required: –

  • Working in an Agile DevOps culture.
  • Experience with Automation ideally Puppet.
  • Experience with containerisation Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Java application servers e.g. WebLogic.
  • Experience with database setup, restore and mirroring. Ideally Oracle, MSSQL and Elastic Search.
  • Experience with Load balancers, pools, health monitors, SSL exchange and ASM, ideally on F5.
  • Code life cycle deployment and related tools like Puppet, Jenkins, Git, Nexus and Pulp.
  • Configuration and setup of enterprise monitoring and alerting infrastructures such as Icinga/Nagios, OEM, Chimera, ELK.
  • Experience with Redhat Linux and MS Windows Server operating systems, comfortable on a Linux command line.
  • Experience with backup solutions, ideally Commvault.
  • Understanding of fundamental security principles for network traffic and third-party software.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, NFS, Windows 2008/2016 domains, TCP/IP, SMTP, IIS, SSL, Internet Infrastructure, and IP informational tools
  • Some Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Bash, Ruby, Python).
  • Problem triage/solving skills and ability to work independently in order to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), documentation and organizational skills.
  • Team player attitude and work ethic.
